Bricklayers Win!!

I'm gonna savor this one.  For the past two years our city league basketball team has had nothing but heartbreak.  Last year we went 2-7, the only two victories by way of forfeit.  We had so many close games, only to fall short.  Even last year's playoff game started off great, but we couldn't pull off the upset.  We have several good players on the team (myself excluded), but we just can't string together a few wins.

This year I felt our chances were better.  I mean, we now have the Beast (our nephew, Samuel).  But after five games we were winless.  Adding to my anxiety is the fact that Culver's graciously sponsored our team.  Therefore I've felt more pressure for our team to perform well.  We have played well at times, but just can't seem to pull out a solid win.  We lost two games in the closing seconds, only adding to the frustration.  Again we found ourselves at 2-7; as we look back it seems we could have easily gone 4-5 or even 5-4.  But it just seems that the ball is not bouncing in our favor.

So we ended with the #6 seed in the playoffs, matching up against the #3 seed; the team who had trounced us by 20+ in our first meeting.  Even so, we felt we had a chance if we could just play one solid all-around game.  Tonight's game started off rough.  At one point in the first half I think we were down by eleven.  But then, little by little, we kept chipping away.  Soon we were up 31-30 and never looked back.  We played hard and got some good breaks.  Even I was able to put down a couple free throws to seal the win; now my scoring average is almost up to 1.0 ppg :-)

Elizabeth brought her camera to catch some of the action.  She successfully captured the closing seconds of the game:

So this one is special.  It makes up for all the coulda-woulda-shoulda's.  Next week we'll probably get destroyed, but hey, we're in the Final Four and that's what matters tonight...
